The key issue mentioned by H.Heimhold in the extract above is: are we living in ¨soul-less habitats¨? When does a home have or get a soul that we can perceive? What are the materials to implement for it to happen?

Where does your personal room start and end? Is it just virtual? It's only imagination. Can you touch it with a finger, slide on its surface with a hand? Rub your back on its contour line? Stretch along with its horizontal plane? The amniotic sac of our mothers was our first protected room even if under surveillance. A melange of soft materiality and adaptability expanding to our needs. We can never return to that room. Following this thought, we should move on and live always in different rooms seeking health and well-being, a change of surroundings perhaps wanting unconsciously to achieve this remembered state of comfort.

 

Will our rooms 100 years from now be more physical, sensible, or more filled with projections controlled by adjustments of settings that evoke our stimuli? Perhaps just a self-sustaining machine for the beginning followed by processes that evoke nervous impulses for pleasure. We wouldn't even have to move to explore a room, there would be no space such as a floor or a wall...In a near-future there would be no square meters for all of us anyway, we would lay separately in a 2m distant capsule diving in different realities, sensing other territories far apart.

 

If we reflect on our first body space: our skin in direct contact with the air particles, the sun, wind, and odeurs.

Lately, my Domus has just been just the warm parts of my body, the cold partitions as the feet belonged to the surrounding, to the cold refreshing air of a physical room in Basel during summer. It is as if the cold parts are being discriminated integrating into the surrounding space. The warm parts on the other hand as the stomach and tongue, for example, are private. enclosed Domus. We could give away different body parts each day to the surrounding to exercise our consciousness.

 

A watery hammock, woven, soft parallelograms, which is said to benefit and to re-generate cells, repair bones and tissues could be the perfect capsule I imagine for a futuristic summer room. We definitely need more softness to equalize the hard realities we are confronted with leaving the Domus, our home.
